In our day-to-day work we always try to give our clients and even prospects a little nudge here and there to help them get the most benefit from their website, internet marketing efforts and even their business.

To continue this long-standing tradition, we are now offering a way for anyone to get ahold of this priceless information for free! But don't tell anyone... we wouldn't want to start a media frenzy or anything like that.

So be sure to check back often for new and hopefully helpful tidbits!

Multiple Personalities, Part 2 - The Site Behind Your Site

Last time I talked about how you can use sub-sites to promote products and services to match marketing materials and that these sub-sites don't even have to match the layout and design of your main website.

Now it's time to talk about the site behind the scenes - which can be known as intranets or extranets.  These web-based applications can perform all sorts of internal or external functions.  Whether you know them by their "techie" name or not, I'm sure you've used an intranet or extranet in your day-to-day operations and even in your personal life.

Extranets (also known as client portals) are typically used by your clients or customers to enhance communication and can be designed to perform tasks such as:

  • placing orders and checking order status
  • updating personal information
  • changing preferences for eNewsletter deliveries and subscriptions

But these are just some of the more common extranet functions.  Your website can also be used to:

  • facilitate online scheduling or registration
  • provide a portal for clients, salespeople, technicians to access documents, sales information and pricing, etc.
  • client reviews and signoffs of projects
  • and much more!

Intranet applications are typically used internally by staff to increase productivity, reduce paperwork, provide a communication tool and more.  Some examples of intranet applications include:

  • technician scheduling - allowing staff to add, update, view and print appointment information
  • document sharing between departments or teams
  • reduction of paperwork by converting to an electronic system
  • internal communication, education and support
These are just some of the many things that your website can do that don't have be based around marketing.  We've developed a number of very functional web-based applications for our clients.  If you'd like to find out more about how your site can not only be a marketing tool, but a business operations tool - let us know!
